Townhall –25 Years of Considering Matthew Shephard: Where Are We Now? (Free Event)

25 years after the murder of Matthew Shepard, Cathy Renna, the Communications Director for the National LGBTQ Task Force, and Dr. Forrest Caskey, AACC Professor and member of Gov. Wes Moore’s MD LGBTQ Task Force, will facilitate an interactive townhall focusing on erasing hate and bias. Members of OPERA AACC and the Arundel Vocal Arts Society will be performing excerpts of “Considering Matthew Shepard.”

AACC Concert Choir, AACC Chamber Singers, the Arundel Vocal Arts Society, and guest artists present composer Craig Hella Johnson’s fusion oratorio Considering Matthew Shepard.

STRESS WARNING: Considering Matthew Shepard is a musical depiction of the actual events surrounding Matthew’s murder and therefore includes images, videos, and props that reference extreme violence, death, hate, and trauma connected to queerphobia. Some audience members may find this content disturbing. Anne Arundel Community College, as part of our core mission, believes that in acknowledging the existence of violence and hate we can better resist it, promote healing, and lift up the deep worth of every human being.

AACC is providing a talk-balk after each performance.

One-act performance; 90 minutes, no intermission.

Black Box Series

Join us for short plays written, designed, acted and directed by students.

AACC Theatre presents its inaugural Black Box Series, which aims to support our budding theatre artists and theatrical community and provides them room to experiment and take risks in a safe space.

Four plays have been chosen for production:

  • “Sheila” by Jessie Ehrenreich
  • “Internal Enemy” by Kayla Smith
  • “The End and the Beginning of Us” by Amari Morris
  • “Obol for Your Thoughts” by Jonas Tintenseher

Each Black Box Series short play will have its own production team including a student director, stage manager, designers and techs. Tickets are Pay-What-You-Can and are available online or at the door.

Guest Artist Series 2023-2024 (workshop)
"Stage Combat" with Jonathan Ezra Rubin

Take a basic look at various falls, punches, slaps and other unarmed stage combat techniques as Fight Director Jonathan Ezra Rubin works with AACC students. The workshop will culminate in a choreographed mass brawl set to the opening scene from "Romeo and  Juliet."

Little Shop of Horrors

It's Theatre AACC's mainstage production, "Little Shop of Horrors," for the spring 2024 season! Taking center stage in various roles is the group of AACC theatre students known as The Moonlight Troupers under the direction of AACC instructors. This production is based on the book and lyrics by Howard Ashman. Music is by Alan Menken. It's also based on the Roger Corman film of Charles Griffth's screenplay and is directed by Madeline Austin.
